It heats water fast and then shuts itself off. Keeps the wife from burning down the house. What more could you ask for at this price? One Caution: The Kettle is NOT insulated & the outside gets hot - so be careful. This review is from: Hamilton Beach Stainless Steel Red Ensemble Electric Kettle, 10-Cup (Kitchen) I bought this electric kettle after our stovetop kettle stopped working properly. I have never owned an electric one before, I was skeptical that it would work as quickly or as safely as described, but I was wrong. It DOES boil a max-filled carafe full of water in about 60 seconds. It DOES shut itself off automatically. The red color is vibrant and elegant but somehow not too bright. I will say (for people with children) that the side gets hot so you can only carry it by the handle. But it's a very sturdy handle, and very easy to carry if it's filled to the maximum line.
